What are Polyphenols?

Polyphenols are nutrients found in plants that are responsible for their health-promoting properties. The more colorful the plant, generally the higher the polyphenol content. This is why fruits, especially berries, and vegetables are good sources of polyphenols.

Polyphenols offer plants protection against the sun’s radiation and help defend against disease. They protect us in a similar way by acting as antioxidants to help combat inflammation and aid in improving immunity through their activation of key genes. The antioxidant capacity of polyphenols is 3x greater than those found in traditional antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and E.

Polyphenols Are…

Polyphenols give fruits and vegetables their bright colors. Until recently, little was known about polyphenols. We now know they are powerful activators of genes. In particular, polyphenols can activate the genes necessary for production of anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging enzymes.

You Need Polyphenols Because…

Polyphenols maintain a healthy gut by promoting an optimal microbial composition. Although polyphenols are not yet considered essential nutrients, you have to have adequate levels in the diet on a daily basis to continually activate the genes required for optimal health, especially for gut health.

Polyphenols Help You Restrict Calories by…

Polyphenols support the enzymes that optimize metabolism so you can promote high energy levels.

Supplementing with Polyphenols is Important Because…

Polyphenol supplements can be concentrated to higher levels making it more likely for the body to get adequate levels on a daily basis to maintain optimal wellness.

  1. Kay

I’m wondering what type of relief any of the long time users have gotten from the supplement I have a lot inflammation and experience a lot of all over body pain in random areas but especially back and legs. Has anyone with chronic pain found relief with this? I’m on my second bottle of OmegaRx2 but getting very little relief and not sure if I should add this. Most of the reviews are just about how long people have used it and how much they love it. Anyone please?

    • Dr. Sears Zone

Kay, Thank you for your question. The Seahealth Plus is a great product to utilize in combination with the liquid OmegaRx 2 since it will help emulsify the fish oil when taken together and thus improve absorption of the omega3’s while also providing high quality anti-oxidants. In addition, now that you have been on the OmegaRx product for approximately 30 days and you are looking to see if you are getting enough omega3’s we would recommend taking the CIT test which is available at Essentially, the best way to know if you are getting enough Omega3’s is to look at your blood levels and this test will do that for you. Once you take your test, give us a call so we can review the results with you in our free 10 minute consultation. Hope this helps you out Kay but please feel free to reach out with any additional questions. Thank You, Dr. Sears Zone

I have been taking this product as a supplement, along with the OmegaRx2, to my regular food regimen which already includes plenty of polyphenol rich foods. The only complaint i have is with the bottle cap; however i only use a shot glass to get a precise dosage, so i do not use the bottle cap to drink.
I exercise 4 to 6 hours per week and this product along with the OmegaRX2 help me with the recovery part by lessening the soreness in the next 24 hours following an intense session of physical activity. I highly recommend this product.

  3. Jacqueline Dix

I’m reviewing the reviewers, not the product. Saying how long you’ve used something isn’t really saying very much and doesnt indicate whether you’ve seen actual health differences … anyone care to provide more specific info …? Thnx

  4. Judy Snyder

Have used for years. I put it in a small cup with my liquid fish oil and it covers most of the fishy taste and I enjoy the berry flavor.

  5. Pamela C.

I have been taking SeaHealth Plus for years, and I expect that it’s doing its job. However, I HATE the bottle it comes in! It drips and makes a mess every time I use it. If I clean it up with a kitchen cloth, it makes permanent stains, which I know means that the ingredients are the good, dark kinds with lots of antioxidants. But as a previous reviewer says, the quality of the bottle should reflect the quality of the ingredients. I recommended it to a friend who stopped using it just because it made such a mess. PLEASE change the bottle.

  6. Maria T.

I like this product the taste is like no other, it fulfills my craving for fruit/veggie taste. I took it years ago and found it again taste you can’t forget.

  7. Mike Clements (verified owner)

Just like the majority of the review say… great product in a crappy container. The lid will not seal properly so the “shake well” part is always a berry colored mess. When you have such a great product, you would think that the container should be worthy of the product… especially when you are dealing in such small measurement amounts per day. I will keep using it but I’m currently looking for a better storage option for future orders.

  8. Denis Sullivan

We have been taking this for years. We take it with us wherever we go and when we go overseas we order it to be delivered to our destination hotel well in advance. The same goes for our Omega Rx 2 and MaquiRx, so our three pillars of health are with us all the time. A great cherry taste.

Have been using for about 20 years. Cost effective. Benefits. Now my husband also using:)

  10. Dr joann tall

A great product- i have been taking this product for a long time and have been telling people about it for years- a very simple and cost effective way to get many products in one easy to take way

  11. Sharon Jay (verified owner)

Fabulous product! This is great stuff.

  12. Viv Oskvarek

I drink a gallon of water a day. 4 quarts. I have sea salts with 72 trace minerals. For each quart I add 1/2 tbsp of sea salts. Is that okay? I have not purchased your sea salt product and I do intent to try it out.

  13. Kathryn Karlin

Tastes good, great way to consume flavonoids.

  14. Rab

I’m not too keen on the sodium benzoate. This can produce benzene in the presence of vitamin C or an acidic environment. Benzene is a known carcinogen

    • Dr. Sears

Sodium benozate is a necessary preservative to prevent microbial growth in the Sea Health Plus because it is in a liquid form. Benzene is a carcinogen and listed on the California Prop 65 list, whereas sodium benozate is not. It is exceptionally difficult for sodium benozate to be converted to benzene.Nonetheless, we did analyze Sea Health Plus for benzene levels and found the levels to be significantly lower than even the lowest levels on the Prop 65 list (24 ug/day via oral intake), which has the most rigid standards in the world. The levels of benzene in natural water and diet soda are far higher.

However if you want zero tolerance without microbial contamination in a liquid form, then taking our polyphenol extracts in capsule form and adding them to a glass of distilled water is your ideal choice. Of course, then you would missing out on the 72 trace minerals and unique polyphenols found in the sea vegetables in Sea Health Plus.

I like it. I use it in the same manner someone else mentions, add my liquid fish oil dose and drink it. It is a bit of a treat, so I sip it. Taste slightly sweet and I rarely have sweet stuff.

What are Polyphenols?

Polyphenols are the chemicals that give vegetables and fruits their colors. They also represent the plant’s primary defense mechanism against invading bacteria and other parasites. Their intake is important in controlling the bacteria composition of our digestive system.

What do Polyphenols do for you?

It is becoming recognized that polyphenols are essential nutrients for humans. They are powerful anti-oxidants, have anti-inflammatory effects, and activate the key enzyme (AMP kinase) that controls our metabolism, increases chemical energy production, and slows down the aging process. Equally important, you need adequate levels of polyphenols to maintain the appropriate balance of bacteria in your gut that is key to maintaining long-term health. If that balance is disturbed by a lack of polyphenols in your diet, the result will be increased cellular inflammation throughout your body.

How many Polyphenols do you need?

From an anti-oxidant potential you need to ingest enough fruits and vegetables to provide a minimum of 3,000-5,000 Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) units per day. Unfortunately, to reach the minimum 3,000-5,000 ORAC units requires approximately 10 servings of normally consumed fruits and vegetables per day. Dr. Sears recommends at least 10,000 ORAC units per day for optimal anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. To reach the recommended levels of 10,000 ORAC units per day, it does require additional polyphenol supplementation for most people. The good news it that one capsule of any of our polyphenol products will provide an additional 8,000 ORAC units.

Are all Polyphenols the same?

No. There are about 4,000 known polyphenols. All have some anti-oxidative properties, but relatively few are anti-inflammatory, and even fewer have anti-aging benefits. Furthermore, you need highly purified polyphenol extracts like those used in Zone Polyphenols to get the full potential of their anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties.

Why are Zone Polyphenols different than others on the market?

To get the full potential of the anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties of polyphenols, you have to use highly purified extracts. They are more expensive than typical concentrates because of the extra processing, but without such purification you are unlikely see any of their potential benefits.

Why are Delphinidins "the Best of the Best"?

Delphinidins are the only polyphenols that are common to red wine, dark chocolate, and blueberries. Delphinidins have a unique structure compared to all other polyphenols that allows them to provide unique anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. The richest source of delphinidins is the maqui berry found only in the Patagonian region of Chile. One capsule of Maqui Rx contains the highly purified polyphenol extract of the maqui berry and has the same amount of delphinidins as found in 100 bottles of red wine, 20 bars of dark chocolate, or 5 pounds of blueberries.
