Health-care system will be hit hard by Alzheimer’s

By:
Dr. Barry Sears

It is estimated that by 2010 diabetes will cost the US health-care system about $200 billion per year. Now a new report indicates that close behind that disease will be new additional costs for Alzheimer’s patients. It is estimated that one out of every eight baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s. This means that the number of Alzheimer’s patients will increase from the current five million to more than ten million in a relatively short period of time. Since Alzheimer’s patients cost Medicare three times more than other patients, the combination of diabetes and Alzheimer’s would literally break the Medicare system within a few years.

Both diabetes and Alzheimer’s are inflammatory diseases. The one “drug” that works effectively on both is the combination of the Zone Diet and high-dose fish oil because they can rapidly reduce the silent inflammation that underlies both diseases.

It is estimated that Medicare will be out of money by 2019. Unless there is a government push for a dietary commitment to reverse these diseases, we can indeed expect a complete collapse of our health-care system.
