Buca di Beppo is a national chain of neighborhood restaurants and may be considered a typical Italian restaurant. Recipes from this restaurant are found on the menus of just about all Italian restaurants. Sherlock Zone and his party decided to try to come up with good Zone meals. Since dishes are served family-style, everyone got to sample a number of dishes.
The group chose several salads:
MIXED GREEN SALAD
Fresh lettuce blend tossed with Italian vinaigrette, red onions, pepperoncini peppers and black and green olives.
APPLE GORGONZOLA SALAD
Tart Granny Smith apples, spiced walnuts, dried cranberries and Gorgonzola cheese tossed with fresh lettuce blend in Italian vinaigrette.
CHOPPED ANTIPASTO SALAD
Diced pepperoni, red onions, pepperoncini peppers, cucumbers, provolone, feta and Gorgonzola cheeses, tossed with fresh lettuce blend in Italian vinaigrette.
Vine-ripened tomatoes and fresh mozzarella drizzled with basil olive oil and topped with fresh basil leaves.
These entrees are typical of most Italian restaurants. The gluten-free portion of the menu suggested a request that the dishes not be dusted with flour. This was a request Sherlock immediately made. Extra vegetables were requested to replace side dishes of with pasta, potatoes or rice.
Sautéed chicken breasts and fresh mushrooms in a Marsala wine reduction.
Salmon filets oven-roasted and topped with lemon butter sauce and capers.
Sautéed chicken or veal layered with fresh sage and prosciutto, topped with artichoke hearts, lemon butter sauce and capers.
Chicken breasts lightly sautéed and topped with lemon butter sauce and capers.
With all the recipes Sherlock asked that the chef go easy on the butter.
Although Sherlock and friends got some carbs from the salad, more were needed. Sherlock ordered vegetable side dishes.
ITALIAN BROCCOLI ROMANO
Broccoli with garlic and a light touch of crushed red pepper and Parmesan cheese.
Crisp green beans sautéed in olive oil and fresh lemon juice.
Sherlock ordered great Zone meals and now believes others can do the same in Italian restaurants around the country.
