This month Sherlock Zone and his friends kicked back and went to a local eatery, Ground Round Grill & Bar. For those of you who don’t know Sherlock, he’s our Zone detective who helps people at restaurants where menus leave them clueless.
Although there were a number of Zone no-no’s at the Ground Round, several menu offerings kept Sherlock and his party in the Zone.
The appetizers were just about all out of bounds, as was the kids’ menu.
The salads, on the other hand, were many and varied. Choices include: Grilled Chicken and Spinach Salad, which includes roasted red peppers, seedless red grapes and smoked cheese; Taco Salad Grande with cheeses, black beans, and Pico de Gallo topped with the choice of seasoned chicken or chili beef (ditch the taco chip garnish); and Shrimp and Artichoke Heart Salad. The Chicken Caesar Salad, of course, is always a Zone standby, but pass on the Southwest Fiesta Chicken Salad, which is tossed with corn salsa and topped with tortilla chips.
The best choice under the chicken category is Lemon Herb Chicken, two grilled chicken breasts, served with vegetables and rice pilaf. Just say no to the pilaf and ask for extra vegetables. Save one of the chicken breasts for lunch the next day.
The only fish selection that isn’t fried and/or breaded is the Orange Grilled Salmon, an eight-ounce Cajun Grilled Salmon.
Although the Ground Road Grill & Bar has many high glycemic-load offerings on its menu, Sherlock and his friends were able to find low-cost Zone meals in a casual atmosphere.
