It’s been at least six years since our intrepid food detective Sherlock Zone visited the Cheesecake Factory. The name of the restaurant made him initially skeptical about what he would find. After he concluded his investigation, he had to grudgingly concede that Zone choices abound at the Cheesecake Factory. Now, six years later there are even more positive changes on the menu.
For his appetizer he created his own Thai Lettuce Wrap, choosing satay chicken strips, bean sprouts and a spicy Thai sauce. There were also several salads from which to choose, including the proverbial Chicken Caesar Salad. The Vegetable Chopped Salad contains asparagus, green beans, tomato, cucumber, apples, edamame, radicchio, and romaine lettuce. It also contains beets, which are unfavorable, so only sample or ask your wait person to omit. The dressing is low-cal sesame soy.
There are also “Weight Management” salads. The Asian Chicken Salad contains grilled chicken, romaine, snow peas, carrots, bean sprouts, green onions and almonds. The salad also features crispy noodles, so ask that they be omitted or eat around them. The Spicy Chicken Salad has mixed greens, grilled chicken, roasted poblano, red and yellow peppers and black beans. Ask that the fresh corn and rice be left off the plate. The dressing featured for this salad is low-cal spicy vinaigrette. The Pear and Endive Salad features grilled chicken, pears, endive, radicchio, arugula, butter lettuce, blue cheese, tomato, candied pecans, and low-cal vinaigrette.
There were a lot of entrée choices. The Chicken Madeira is a sautéed chicken breast topped with fresh asparagus and melted mozzarella cheese and covered with fresh mushroom Madeira sauce. It’s served with mashed potatoes, which Sherlock declined.
Another good choice is the Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo with tomatoes, peppers, onions, and garlic in spicy Cajun Sauce. It’s topped with rice, which should be omitted.
Other selections include Shrimp Scampi without the pasta, Salmon with Lemon Sauce with the asparagus and without the potatoes, and, of course, the grilled fish of the day.
If you still need more Zone-favorable carbohydrates, side dishes include sautéed spinach, fresh asparagus, sautéed snow peas, broccoli and green beans.
As he did the last time he visited the Cheesecake Factory, he ordered one serving of cheesecake, which was split among his dining party of four.
