Sherlock Zone, our intrepid food detective, had a hankering for shrimp so he and his friends went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. They were a bit disappointed because so many of the shrimp dishes were covered with beer batter or bread crumbs.
After a bit of investigation, Sherlock discovered that there are some appetizers that have kept shrimp in its natural state. Shakin’ Shrimp Cocktail adds cilantro, tomatoes, onion, avocado and chilies. Shrimper’s Net Catch steams the shrimp in beer and comes either with garlic spice or Cajon spice.
Salads include Caesar, Cobb and Run Chicken Run, which is chilled mixed greens tossed with grilled chicken, pecans, basil, gorgonzola cheese and balsamic vinegar.
Only three entrees met Sherlock’s approval: Shrimp New Orleans, Bourbon Mahi Mahi (ditch the mashed potatoes) and Sherlock’s favorite, Salmon and Veggie Skillet, the only entrée he spied on the menu that features vegetables. Say no to the jasmine rice.
Although Sherlock and his party were able to keep in the Zone, they wished more healthy shrimp and fish dishes were available. The restaurant also has a dearth of favorable carb side dishes, so you may want to bring a piece of fruit to round out your meal.
