Sherlock Zone tries out Bertucci’s

Sherlock Zone took some friends to Bertucci’s, a restaurant chain that has the slogan “what’s not to love.” Our food detective said Zoners certainly won’t love the restaurant’s pizzas and pasta dishes, but he found quite a few dishes held up under his magnifying glass.

He liked the Shrimp Scampi appetizer, which was simmered in a light garlic cream sauce. Order without grilled crostini. Mussels Caruso features North Atlantic mussels cooked to order in a choice of a fragrant herbed white wine sauce or a spicy plum tomato sauce. Again, no grilled crostini. The Antipasto Misto contains brick oven-roasted peppers, zucchini, artichokes, olives, prosciutto, fresh asparagus, broccoli, fresh mozzarella and grape tomatoes served with baby field greens and balsamic vinaigrette.

There are several robust salads, including Insalata, mixed leaf lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, black olives and Romano cheese; Salad Vivaldi con Pollo & Bello, baby field greens tossed with balsamic vinaigrette, grape tomatoes, roasted olives, and red onions, topped with grilled chicken and roasted Portobello mushrooms; Tomato and Mozzarella Caprese Salad, grape tomatoes and fresh mozzarella mixed with extra-virgin olive oil and herbs, over a bed of baby field greens tossed with balsamic vinaigrette; Grilled Chicken Chopped Salad on a mix of chopped romaine and iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, green peppers, carrots, plum tomatoes and Romano cheese tossed with a gorgonzola cheese dressing and garnished with a cilantro pesto sauce; Venetian Spinach Salad with grilled chicken breast on top of a bed of spinach, grape tomatoes, red onions, shredded Romano cheese and balsamic vinaigrette; and Salad Giardino with grilled chicken breast on a mix of field greens tossed with grape tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, green peppers, red onions, olives, shaved cheese and balsamic vinaigrette.

For an entrée, Sherlock chose Balsamic Chicken, grilled chicken breasts drizzled with a balsamic glaze and served with string beans and red skin mashed potatoes. Say no to the potatoes and yes to extra string beans.

The Pollo Sanremo with half Insalata is also in the Zone with grilled chicken breasts cooked in a light lemon sauce with roasted black olives, thyme and capers. Served with asparagus and a half Insalata.

Other good entrées feature Grilled Salmon Fillet and Salmon Florentine.

Zone-favorable side dishes include Broccoli Romana, crunchy florets flavored with roasted garlic and lemon-wine sauce and topped with grated Romano cheese; Roasted Tuscan Vegetables, brick oven-roasted peppers, artichokes, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, diced tomatoes and roasted garlic; Fresh Asparagus and String Beans.

So while the phrase “what’s not to love” may not quite ring true to a Zoner, there are quite a few menu entries that Zoners will love to eat. Bertucci’s has a gluten-free menu.
