A restaurant with the name of Pizzeria Uno doesn’t sound like the ideal place to find a Zone meal, but since there are 200 Unos, we thought it would be a good place to send our fearless detective Sherlock Zone. Sherlock, for those of you new to this e-zine, takes on one case a month, investigating menus in different restaurants that leave Zone diners clueless.
First off, skip the signature deep-dish pizza at Unos. There are a lot more selections. The appetizers, which are “sized for sharing,” are also not good choices. Choose a salad instead. Large house/Caesar salads may be topped with grilled chicken, sliced turkey, grilled shrimp, sliced sirloin steak, Teriyaki grilled salmon or lobster and shrimp salad. Couple the salad with a bowl of Windy City Chili, and you’ve got a Zone meal. The Mandarin Chicken Salad and the Grilled Shrimp and Roasted Vegetable Salad are also good bets.
Unos also has a number of entrees, including a stir-fried chicken with fresh vegetables. It’s served on a bed of rice, but your server will probably have no problem substituting extra vegetables and eliminating the rice. Grilled Teriyaki Salmon is also served with roasted vegetables. The Chicken Gorgonzola is chicken breast baked with mozzarella and gorgonzola cheeses and topped with fresh tomatoes. It’s served with roasted vegetables and rice. You will, of course, not order the rice.
For protein, you may choose what’s offered in the sandwich selections. Just tell the server to not bring you the bun. Choose hand-carved roasted turkey breast with melted Swiss, Sierra Chicken with onions, peppers and mushrooms, a veggie burger or a grilled chicken breast. To make sure you are eating adequate carbohydrates, have a bowl of chili or roasted vegetables. Otherwise, you are going to be following a high-protein diet, which the Zone is not.
So once again, Sherlock Zone has cracked the case.
