Sherlock Zone goes StirCrazy

While traveling through a suburb of Chicago, Sherlock Zone noticed a restaurant named StirCrazy. His investigative curiosity piqued, he decided to dine there. What a pleasant, zoneful experience he had.


The restaurant features traditional Asian dishes, including Vietnamese, Japanese and Thai. Everything is made from scratch.


Several appetizers were to his liking. He and his party enjoyed Chicken Lettuce Wraps, a blend of chicken and vegetables. There are also Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps, featuring wok-seared tofu and vegetables. Chicken Satay and Tuna Sashimi were also Zone-favorable. Edamame, lightly seasoned soybeans in the pod, contain equal blocks of protein and carbohydrate, and are fun and healthy to munch.


Several salads on the menu were big enough to serve as entrees: Chinese Chicken Salad, which contains vegetables and mandarin oranges; Asian Caesar Salad, which can be topped with chicken or salmon; Yin Yang Shrimp Salad that combines chicken and vegetable skewers on a bed of field greens and Napa cabbage; and Fuji Tuna Salad, which contains fresh wok-seared tuna, shitake mushrooms, apples and mixed greens.


Several fish and grill dishes and wok-tossed dishes are Zone favorable. And if you need to bump up your carbs, try a side of wrinkled green beans or garlic spinach. Skip the noodle and rice dishes.


What Sherlock enjoyed the most at StirCrazy was the Create Your Own Stirfry feature on the menu. You start out by choosing your style: vegetarian, chicken, flank steak, calamari, or fresh fish.


Then you can choose six of the following ingredients: bean sprouts, bok choy, bamboo shoots, broccoli, baby corn (skip), carrots, celery, green beans, green and red peppers, mushrooms, Napa cabbage, onions, pea pods, pineapple, red cabbage, scallions, spinach, tofu, tomatoes, water chestnuts, yellow squash, and zucchini.


Then pick a sauce: classic Chinese, peanut, black bean, Thai barbecue, spicy basil, Thai curry, garlic ginger, Szechwan black bean or Szechwan.


You also have the option to add a little spice: fresh garlic, chili peppers, crushed peanuts, fresh ginger and fresh cilantro. There are StirCrazy restaurants in Illinois, Michigan, Florida, New York, Missouri and Ohio.


The restaurant’s Web site indicates there are plans to expand nationwide.
