Sherlock Zone recently took a group of friends to Flemings, a nationwide steakhouse chain. He found the menu varied with lots of selection to help his party craft a good Zone meal.
He was impressed when he went to the restaurant’s Web site because the menu lists recommendations for diabetics, the gluten intolerant and other diners with special dietary requirements.
Several appetizers are in the Zone, including Tenderloin Carpaccio, Wicked Cajun Barbecue Shrimp, and Seared Ahi Tuna.
For salads, members of his party chose Fresh Mozzarella and Sweet Tomato, Spinach and Portobello, and Seafood or Chicken Chopped Salad, which contains, pancetta (a little bit won’t hurt your), artichokes, asparagus, blue cheese and a vinaigrette.
The steak offerings come in very large portions. The smallest is the eight-ounce filet mignon, which is big enough to serve two. The prime rib eye and the strip steak are 16 ounces, enough to serve a family of four. The double breast of chicken, which is baked in a white wine, mushroom, shallot and thyme sauce, is also 16 ounces. Plan on a lot of leftovers. Remember a typical woman requires 3 ounces of steak or chicken, and the typical man requires 4 ounces at each meal.
Seafood offerings are New Zealand King Salmon Fillet, Tuna Mignon, Seared Scallops, Australian Lobster Tails and Alaskan King Crab legs. Use drawn butter sparingly. Specify if you want your fish dish prepared without butter sauce.
There are a number of Zone-favorable sides to help boost your carbohydrate count, including sautéed or creamed spinach, grilled asparagus, broccoli, sautéed mushrooms and a vegetable medley of Portobello mushrooms, grilled zucchini, summer squash, asparagus, shallots and tomatoes. Any of the vegetables can be ordered steamed instead of sautéed. You may also request that the vegetables be prepared with olive oil instead of butter.
For those who are gluten sensitive, the Cream of Asparagus and Lobster Bisque soups are gluten-free. All salad dressings are gluten free, according to the restaurant’s Web site.
