Sherlock Zone was doing an investigation on the West Coast when he spied an El Pollo Loco restaurant.
“Now why would someone want to name a restaurant The Crazy Chicken,” Sherlock wondered. But he just happened to be hungry and decided to try to find clues on the menu that would keep him in the Zone.
Chicken, of course, is the restaurant center piece. An old family recipe features special herbs, spices and citrus juices. The chicken is then flame grilled. Sherlock chose a Pollo Choice Skinless Chicken Breast Meal -- special request, which is served with fresh vegetables, garden salad and house salsa. He also got a side order of Smoky Black Beans, which added up to a good Zone meal.
Zoners may prefer to try out the fresh Salsa Bar, which includes the House Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Spicy Chipotle Salsa, another way to complete needed favorable carbohydrates.
Side dishes also include fresh steamed vegetables and a garden salad. All sides come in small or large portions.
Sherlock also noticed a couple of Zone-favorable salads on the menu: Chicken Fiesta, which consists of sliced chicken breast, lettuce, cheese, chipotle dressing, cotija cheese, guacamole, sour cream, corn poblano, pico de gallo and tortilla strips (go easy on the sour cream, corn and tortilla strips); and Chicken Caesar, which contains sliced chicken breast, romaine lettuce, creamy cilantro dressing, cotija cheese and pico de gallo.
At this point El Pollo Loco has 300 restaurants in the western side of the country, but plans are in the works to open restaurants in Chicago and then travel toward the East Coast.
Obviously, diners can have a disastrous dinner if they eat lots of tortillas, but Sherlock enjoyed his meal at El Pollo Loco because he made the right choices to keep him in the Zone.
