Sherlock Zone and friends recently decided try the Cosi restaurant. The first thing our food detective noticed was that many of the diners were eating sandwiches. He almost walked out the door but decided instead to investigate the menu. The meal was on, as Sherlock deduced how to stay in the Zone.
Many of the salads are a cut above, and there is a Lighten Up menu that trims the fat in the salad dressing. Among the offerings are Cosi Cobb Light with grilled chicken breast, bacon (go easy), gorgonzola cheese, tomatoes, scallions, mixed greens and reduced-fat sherry shallot vinaigrette; and Bombay Chicken Light with chicken breast, a blend of Eastern spices, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, mixed greens and fat-free balsamic vinaigrette.
You can also choose salads from the regular menu. Just asked for a dressing featured in the Lighten Up menu. Sherlock enjoyed the chilled Wild Alaskan Salmon Salad, served with mixed greens, eggs, carrots, capers, tomatoes and red onions.
Sherlock tried some Moroccan Lentil Soup, and there were also good reviews for the Three Bean Chili.
Another tasty way to get enough favorable carbs includes ordering hummus, which serves two. It comes with bread and cucumber rounds. Say no to the bread and ask for extra cucumber rounds, which can be used for dipping.
Another good source of carbohydrates is the Fire-Roasted Veggie Sandwich, which comes on flatbread. Eat just a little of the bread and have the red and yellow peppers, eggplant, artichoke hearts, zucchini and red onions.
