Sherlock Zone goes out for Chinese

We’ve gotten a number of requests to send Sherlock Zone to search for clues at a Chinese restaurant. Every month we send our dear Sherlock to a restaurant to try to construct a good Zone meal. Since P.F. Chang’s is a Chinese restaurant that is open for business in all but 17 states, we decided to send Sherlock there. He found a great variety of dishes that were right in the center of the Zone.

The important thing to remember when dining out at a Chinese restaurant is to hold the rice, meins and noodles. No matter how Zoneful the rest of your meal is, if you eat a lot of rice, you’re going to be starving about an hour after you eat. What Sherlock and his dinner companion did was to each get an entree and then split a vegetarian entree.

There were quite a few good selections throughout the menu. Under appetizers, Sherlock liked Chang’s Chicken in Soothing Lettuce wraps or Chang’s Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps, which contain wok-seared tofu, red onions, and water chestnuts with mint and lime. Lettuce wraps are a great idea. Lettuce cups are made by slicing the top off a head of iceberg lettuce right through the middle of the head. Then they’re filled and wrapped. It’s like having a sandwich without the bread. Another appetizer that caught Sherlock’s eye is Shanghai Cucumbers, sprinkled with soy and sesame.

The Warm Duck Spinach Salad is a winner, featuring citrus soy dressing, Mandarin oranges and fried shallots.

For dinner Sherlock chose Beef With Broccoli, a staple at just about all Chinese restaurants. His companion ordered Cantonese Scallops stir-fried with garlic, yellow chives and snow peas. The two split Stir-fried Spicy Eggplant, which is tossed with scallions and a fiery sauce. Other good choices are Sichuan Style Long Beans or Asparagus, Spinach Stir-Fried With Garlic, Garlic Snap Peas or Ma Po Tofu in a spicy vegetarian sauce with steamed broccoli.

So Sherlock Zone has cracked still another case. Does the menu of your favorite restaurant leave you clueless? Let us know, and we’ll send Sherlock Zone to the rescue.
