Sherlock Zone has just filed his report on his latest investigation: a meal at Benihana. For those of you who don’t know, Sherlock every month visits a restaurant that leaves diners clueless and tries to construct a Zone meal.
Benihana is a chain of Japanese teppanyaki and sushi restaurants. If there isn’t one in your area, seek out a similar hibachi-style restaurant that prepares food on a grill that is part of the table on which it is served.
Sherlock had no trouble constructing a Zone meal. Grilled protein choices include Hibachi chicken, shrimp or scallops. This is served with Japanese onion soup, Benihana salad, shrimp appetizer, hibachi vegetables, steamed rice and Japanese hot green tea. Just go way easy on the rice. Specialties include the Benihana Delight, which is chicken and shrimp; Fish Tsutsumi-Yaki, salmon and hibachi vegetables wrapped and cooked on the grill; Benihana Marina, shrimp, calamari and ocean scallops; and Seafood Combination, cold water lobster tail, ocean scallops and shrimp. Sherlock was impressed with the number of good protein choices he could make.
Many of the side orders are also Zone favorable, including Japanese Onion Soup and the Vegetable Mix Sauté, a blend of sautéed vegetables, teriyaki sauces, lemon and roasted sesame seeds.
If you go to Benihana or the hibachi-style restaurant in your area, you can rest assured you can get a good Zone meal.
